Highway 401 through Toronto is the busiest highway in North America. Trucks passing through โ not stopping โ can bypass via Highway 407 ETR, a tolled express route. But is the toll worth the time saved? This dashboard answers that in real time.
Inspired by a Mixed Logit (MXL) discrete choice model from thesis research on Ontario truck drivers. The dashboard now collects real driver responses to build an evidence base independent of stated-preference estimates.
What 407 effectively charges per hour of time saved: toll รท (time saved in hours). Pure math from live data. When market VOT exceeds $81/hr, the toll route is overpriced for the average truck driver.
Travel times: Google Maps Directions API (real-time, every 3 min). Tolls: 407 ETR 2026 rate chart, Class 4 heavy multi-unit, transponder. Driver choices: collected via this survey โ responses are voluntary and anonymous.
